A report says that Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Iran’s Parliament, has been told to resign his post over allegations that he was involved in the recent $3-billion bank fraud, or he will face dismissal.

Javad Karimi, a member of the National Security Commission, told Ghanoon Website: “Boroujerdi had written recommendation letters under the cover page of the National Security Commission for the Amir Mansour Arya group and Khavari, even though these cover pages should only be used for commission business and at no time should have been used merely to support an individual or a financial group.”

For this violation, Karimi insisted that Boroujerdi should resign his post. He added that if Boroujerdi refused, the commission could vote to remove him from his post.

The Etemad daily wrote today that some MPs believe that when the head of the security commission reaches the stage of being summoned by the court, then he should not be in charge of the government’s most security-oriented body.

Boroujerdi was reportedly arrested over the letters of recommendation for the Amir Mansour Arya financial group, which has been identified as the chief culprit in the bank fraud. It is reported that the head of the National Security Commission was held for 24 hours and was only released with the intervention of Ali Larijani, the head of Parliament.

Boroujerdi has declared that he and his family have been in no way involved in the great bank fraud, which has made headlines in the Iranian media for the last month.

However, another member of the National Security Commission, Hossein Sobhaninia, has said the commission has discussed the issue and put it to a vote. Only two members voted for Boroujerdi’s dismissal. The rest agreed to wait for the verdict of the judiciary.
