Nine political prisoners in Yazd successfully ended their hunger strike today, as authorities finally separated them from the general prisoners.

Zamaneh reports that prison authorities finally caved in to the prisoners’ demands after six days of a hunger strike and agreed to keep the political prisoners in a separate ward.

Four of the prisoners, accused of membership in a Kurdish political party and armed activities, have been in Yazd jail for over 15 years without any furlough: Mohammad Moradi, Vali Doroodi, Ali Salehi and Omar Emami.

Doroodi, who was arrested in June of 1996 in Kermanshah, told Zamaneh: “I have not given up being released, and my wish is to be present at my daughter’s wedding. When I was arrested, she was a little girl and now she is preparing for a wedding. I have applied for a furlough on several occasions but so far I have had no response.”

Previously, another group of Kurdish prisoners went on a hunger strike for more than a month in Rejai Shahr Prison in Karaj, with similar demands.
