The Iranian Foreign Ministry has announced that, with the closure of Iran’s embassy in Britain, Iranians in Britain will soon be offered consular services in a neighbouring country.

Britain, however, is not part of Shengen Treaty; therefore, Iranians will need a visa to travel to other European countries, which may pose a major difficulty.

Last week, Iranian Parliament approved a major downgrade in Iran-Britain relations, after Britain announced that it will boycott all Iranian banks to force Iran’s hand in the nuclear dispute.

The British Embassy in Tehran was stormed on Tuesday by a crowd of demonstrators denouncing British policies against Iran. The attack led to the closure of Iran’s embassy in London and the British Embassy in Tehran.

There are currently 300,000 Iranians in Britain, and 90 percent of them reportedly require consular services.
