Munich’s media regulatory office (BLM) has ordered the SES Astra satellite to stop broadcasting the Islamic Republic’s English-language network, Press TV.
The Iranian network reports: “In an email sent to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) officials, the Vice President of the SES Platforms Services, Stephane Goebel, noted that the BLM has asked that Press TV be immediately removed from the platform.”
Goebel reportedly writes that his company “will be no longer able to keep the Press TV signal on air and will need to shut down the service without further notice.”
Press TV condemns the move, describing it as “a plot orchestrated by the West to silence the voice of the Iranian English-language channel.”
Earlier this year, Press TV was also removed from Sky Satellite by the UK communications office, Ofcom, over licensing violations. Press TV was also fined 1,000 pounds.
Press TV claimed the charges were fake and that Belgium and Italy have made similar moves, according to viewers, without any official repercussions.
