The head of the Tehran Environment Organization has announced that the city’s air quality has reached alarmingly poor levels and may soon constitute an emergency.

In addition to the concentration of air-polluting particles, the report indicates that a new wave of dust particles from Iraq may plunge Tehran’s air quality to critical depths.

Due to this warning, ambulances and emergency crews have been deployed to central spots in the city, such as main squares and intersections.

The Tehran Environment Organization has also called on officials to ban vehicles with heavy exhaust emissions from the streets.

The report indicates that 900,000 heavy machines are in use every day on construction sites in the capital, while 10,000 trucks and heavy machines continue operating through the night.

The organization also criticized the burning of city garbage and urged the city to refrain from the practice, especially at this time.
