Female workers laid off as garment factory closes

The eighty women who work at the Khoramabad garment factory in central Iran have all lost their jobs, following the company’s declaration of bankruptcy last week.

Shahrzadnews:The eighty women who work at the Khoramabad garment factory in central Iran have all lost their jobs, following the company’s declaration of bankruptcy last week. The factory announced its closure immediately after receiving local government loans intended to convert it into a generator manufacturer.
Meanwhile the ILNA news agency reports that over two hundred workers at the city’s refrigerator factory Boujan also risk losing their jobs. The company says it can no longer compete with unregulated imports of cheap foreign refrigerators. It has been unable to pay salaries or national insurance contributions for the past four months.
ILNA criticised the government for failing to provide reliable data on the number of jobless in the country, in spite of the recent national census. Meanwhile more and more workers are being laid off, it said.
