Authorities Disregard The Dire Health of Dervishes on 49th day of hunger strike/ Transfer of Saleh Moradi to Infirmary

Physical condition of Jailed Dervishes in Adel Abad prison, on 49th day of their hunger strike has been reported deteriorated as a result of their prolonged hunger strike.

According to Majzooban Noor, Gonabadi Dervish Saleh Moradi who is on his 49th day of hunger strike, had to be taken to Adel Abad Infirmary by prison guards twice in a matter of hours this morning on 15th Esfand 1391(March 5, 2013).

Saleh Moradi who is being held in Shiraz’s Adel Abad prison for more than 18 months, is suffering from severe kidney and stomach pain and due to the long-term hunger strike his health has deteriorated.

Meanwhile yesterday, Gonabadi Dervish, Kasra Nouri another Dervish on hunger strike in 48th day of his hunger strike, lost consciousness for a few hours and was taken to the infirmary. Also his condition becoming critical 2 days ago and infirmary doctor had to go at green section for a quick check-up and prescribing.

According to worried families of these Prisoners of Conscience the situation for Gonabadi Dervish Hunger Strikers grows more and more dire. Now they are suffering with vision loss, kidney failure, bowel adhesion in addition to weakness, weight loss and dizziness and the appearance of these symptoms are warning signs of their dire health condition and indicate that they are facing life-threatening health complications!

Up to now, the family’s efforts to find out about their exact physical health condition and medical attention have been fruitless.

It is important to say that, The Shiraz’s Revolutionary Court have contacted the family of Mr. Saleh Moradi by phone and stated that they have to grant bail of 50 million toman to pave the way for the temporary release from jail of Saleh Moradi, otherwise they must sign a letter stating that Judicial and Security authorities do not have any responsibility for the possible consequences of Mr Moradi’s hunger strike continuing. But The family of Mr. Moradi by stating that

Judicial and security officials shall be primarily responsible for the health and lives of Mr. Moradi and other jailed Dervishes, refused to grant bail and other demands of authorities and called attention to the demands of Mr. Moradi and Nouri to end their hunger strike.

These two Gonabadi Dervishes who are behind bars for more than 18 months in Shiraz’s Adel Abad prison , lunched the hunger strike to protest illegal transfer of seven Gonabadi Dervishes’s lawyers and Majzooban Noor website managers to solitary confinement of Evin prison under order from judge Salavati on 27th of Dey 1391 ( Jan 15, 2013).They required prison officials to transfer back seven Gonabadi Dervishes’s lawyers to the general ward of Evin Prison, called attention to the health status of imprisoner Dervishes and a justice and fair trail but unfortunately their demands continue to be ignored and the detained lawyers of the Gonabadi Dervishes are still being held in solitary confinement of Ward 209 at about 50 days.

Saleh Moradi and Kasra Nouri are currently in jail, on charges of “Propaganda against the regime”, “Acting against national security”, “Deviant group (Majzooban Noor) membership” and “Interviews with foreign media, Radio Farda”, but they have not yet received a definitive sentence till now. It seems that, after more than18 months, their case is under investigation in Shiraz’s Revolutionary Court.

We note in this regard that although they have been in detention more than the serving a period of time which would equate to their sentence, therefore now their detention is absolutely unlawful.
