The complaint by workers objecting to the minimum wage recently announced by the Ministry of Labour has been submitted to the Supreme Court of Administration.

Workers have claimed that the minimum wage is supposed to rise in accordance with the inflation rate, as laid out in the Labour Ministry’s administrative provisions, but while the Central Bank has pegged the national inflation rate at 30.2 percent, the minimum wage was increased by only 25 percent.

The workers’ complaint goes on to say that the real rate of inflation is in fact much higher than what the Central Bank announced at the time.

Meanwhile, 100 city councillors have begun a petition in support of the workers’ demands, urging the government to recognize “the legitimate demands of workers” and put the wage increase in line with the inflation rate announced by the Central Bank.
