Posted videos of Ayatollah Taheri Esfahani’s funeral show participants chanting slogans against the administration and calling for the release of MirHosein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, the Iranian opposition leaders under house arrest.

On Tuesday, senior cleric Ayatollah Taheri Esfahani was laid to rest in Esfahan amid crowds of people chanting “Death to the Dictator!”, “Political prisoners must be released!” and “Mousavi and Karroubi must be released!”

Ayatollah Taheri was one of the vocal reformist supporters among the clergy and he had openly declared that the results of the 2009 election and the victory of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad were invalid.

Ayatollah Taheri Esfahani passed away at the age of 87 on Sunday June 2.
