Iran’s national football team defeated South Korea today, June 18, securing its place at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Reza Ghouchan-Nejad scored the game’s only goal at the 59-minute mark, taking the team to victory in Ulsan, South Korea.
As a result, Iran reached the top of its group with a total of 16 points after five victories, a tie and two defeats.
Iran’s national football team had been lagging but in the last three games it managed to collect nine points and pull ahead.
This is the fourth time the Iranian team has made it to the World Cup, after Argentina in 1978, France in 1998, and Germany in 2006.
Iran is the third team to qualify for the top football event. Japan and Australia have already celebrated their qualification for the World Cup.
