The rising price of medical drugs has severely restrained the services offered by addiction treatment clinics.

ILNA reports that the head of Addiction Prevention and Treatment has said its clinics are faced with a 60- to 80-percent increase in the price of the medical drugs they need to deliver adequate treatment.

“The drop in the quality of the drugs and their rising price have forced some of the clinics to drop addiction treatment and transform into cosmetic surgery clinics,” Farid Barati Sadeh added.

In addition, some clinics are getting patients to share in the cost of medication.

Barati Sadeh added that government subsidies for addiction treatment centres are severely inadequate.
