The head of Iran’s Expediency Council has once again attacked extremism in politics, emphasizing that the country must maintain a positive interaction with the world .
Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani told a group of academics in a meeting on Sunday July 21: “We cannot continue being cross with the world… and extremism has always restrained people’s fight for independence at every stage of the Islamic Revolution.”
He stressed that everyone is responsible “for protecting people’s achievements and not allowing extremists to spread the seeds of disillusionment in society.”
ILNA reports that the moderate cleric referred to those who had “thrown the country into its current situation” and added that they can always reconsider and assist in improving the situation but they have “to refrain from insulting and slandering others since such statements leave no room for the language of moderation.”
Iran’s president-elect, Hassan Rohani, who was supported by Ayatollah Rafsanjani, was elected on a platform of moderation in domestic policies and cooperation in foreign affairs.
