Authorities stop Ghadr Night ceremony

ghadr night

Police and security forces prevented a group of Iranian reformists from holding the Muslim ceremony of Ghadr Night in Darolzahra last night, Saturday July 17.

Kaleme reports that Darolzahra Hossienieh is run by Ali Akbar Mohtashamipour, who is a member of the reformist organization Association of Combatant Clergy. Since the controversial presidential election of 2009, no ceremonies have been allowed at this religious centre due to its links to reformist figures.

Reformists reportedly have been prevented from holding any Ghadr Night ceremonies in the past four years, even in other religious centres such as Hosseineh Ershad and Towhid Centre.

Reformists have been heavily sidelined in the past four years following the controversial 2009 presidential elections when reformist candidates made allegations of vote fraud and triggered widespread mass protests.
