Hundreds of activists call for release of ill jailed blogger

Hossein-Ronaghi-Maleki

395 Iranian activists have issued a letter calling for the unconditional release of jailed blogger Hossein Ronaghi Maleki.

Ronaghi Maleki is suffering from severe kidney problems and other health issues and is reportedly in need of regular medical care.

Ronaghi Maleki has been on a hunger strike for over three weeks in protest against the authorities’ refusal to grant him leave for medical reasons.

The signatories write that the political prisoner’s legal rights require the authorities to provide him with adequate medical care, as they remain responsible for his life and well-being.

Ronaghi was arrested after the controversial 2009 presidential election, part of the wave of arrests of media activists, and was sentenced to 15 years in jail.
