Iranian President Hassan Rohani has wished all Jews, “especially Iranian Jews,” a happy Jewish new year, or Rosh Hashanah, in a message on his English-language Twitter feed late on September 4.

Rohani came to office last month, replacing Mahmud Ahmadinejad, who was known for his anti-Semitic remarks and for describing the Holocaust as a “myth.”

Earlier on September 4, Rohani had urged Iran’s conservative clerics in the Assembly of Experts to change their “narrow-minded” approach to society in a world that has become interconnected through satellite television and the Internet.

It was also announced on the same day that Rohani would travel to New York later this month to address the annual UN General Assembly.

Rohani has said Iran is ready to allay Western concerns and that the controversy over its nuclear program could be solved quickly.
