Prominent Iranian human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh has been released from jail, according to her husband, Reza Khandan, who broke the news on Facebook.

The Iranian authorities have reportedly told Sotoudeh that she does not need to go back to jail to serve the rest of her prison term.

Sotoudeh, the co-winner of the European Parliament’s 2012 Sakharov Prize, was jailed in 2010 on a number of charges including acting against Iran’s national security.

She was reportedly released on September 18 along with several other female political prisoners.

Her release comes following the election of Iran’s new President Hassan Rohani, who has promised moderation and more rights for Iranians.
