In an interview with the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, Fakhrolsadat Mohtashamipour, wife of Mostafa Tajzadeh, prisoner of conscience and political activist, said that a new case has been opened and a new indictment issued for her husband, the content of which is as yet unknown to them. Fakhrolsadat Mohtashamipour said that the Revolutionary Court contacted her three weeks ago and informed her of this news, but the indictment has not been served to her husband in Evin Prison or to his lawyer yet. Mohtashamipour is extremely concerned about the health of her husband, who is being held in solitary confinement at Evin. She told the Campaign that the prison infirmary had not yet agreed to hand over his medical file to the family, and that the IRGC and the Prosecutor have prevented his transfer to a hospital for examination ever since March of this year.
Mohtashamipour said that if something should happen to Mostafa Tajzadeh, all those who could have prevented such an event would be held responsible and they would have to be accountable to the family of this prisoner and to society.
Mostafa Tajzadeh, a senior member of the Islamic Iran Participation Front and the Mojahedin of the Islamic Revolution organization, and a former Deputy of the Interior Ministry in Mohammad Khatami’s administration, was arrested immediately following the disputed 2009 presidential election. Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court tried Mostafa Tajzadeh and dozens of others in a group trial. He was sentenced to six years in prison and a ten-year ban on political and press activities, on charges of “assembly and collusion against national security” and “propaganda against the regime.”
“A few weeks ago, we were contacted by the Revolutionary Court and we were told that they have a summons for Mr. Tajzadeh. The interesting thing was that they did not know that Mr. Tajzadeh was in prison and they asked me about him, so I said to send it to him in prison. But up until my last visit with Mr. Tajzadeh, which was on Monday, October 5, nothing had been served to him or his lawyer,” Mohtashamipour told the Campaign.
In an interview with ISNA on Friday, October 11, Amir Hossainabadi, Mostafa Tajzadeh’s lawyer, said: “I have not had a meeting with my client ever since the court ruling was finalized and my client was returned to prison. I was notified by Mr. Tajzadeh’s wife of the new case file created for my client. If I get a meeting with Mr. Tajzadeh, he can sign a new power of attorney for the case, and then I will find out about the content of the said case.”
“Mr. Tajzadeh’s blood pressure is very high, and he has severe back and neck pain. Despite my efforts to have him transferred to a hospital since March, the IRGC and the Prosecutor have not approved the transfer and won’t even let us have his medical file so that we can show it to his specialist doctors,” said Fakhrolsadat Mohtashamipour.
Mohtashamipour expressed hope that her husband would be released following the recent release of several political prisoners.
