Two Gonabadi Dervishes wrote an open letter to Iran’s Head of the Judiciary, Mr. Larijani, in which they protest against Dervish rights violations by Iranian judicial system.
According to Majzooban Noor, in a letter addressed to the judiciary chief Ayatollah Sadegh Amoli-Larijani, two Gonabadi Dervishes residents of Shiraz, Saleh Moradi Sarvestani and Behzad Nouri have mentioned Dervish rights abuses by judicial system in all over the country.
In recent years, security and judicial pressure on Dervishes of Nematollahi Gonabadi Order and violations of their rights has been on the increase and they had faced so many coercive conflicts such as detention, threat, insult, destruction and plumbing their worship places (Hoseiniehes).
The letter referred to the oppression and injustice faced by Gonabadi Dervishes including “the attacks by Basiji and plain-clothes on Gonabadi Dervishes in Kavar town in Fars Province which resulted the death of one Dervish called ” Vahid Banani” who was killed by a gun-shut in police checkpoint in Shahrivar 1390 (September 2011)”; “The lack of investigation of Dervishes’s complaints against principal offenders of Kavar event, clergy Mohammad-Reza Shahbazi and another clergyman, named Ali-Reza Ghaemi to Judiciary system”; “Receiving long jail sentences and exile forever”; “The prolonged detention of Dervishes without court order”, “Shaving off their beards and whiskers in prison for the purpose of humiliating them”; “Lack of access to adequate medical treatment for jailed Dervishes”; “Not to pursue murder case of Dervish Martyr Vahid Banai”; “Illegal detention of the head of Nematollahi Gonabadi Sufi Order His Excellency Hajj Dr. Noor Ali Tabandeh Majzoub Ali Shah, who was also forced to leave his home in Bidokht, the main centre of the order in Iran, in May 2007”; “Demolishing the houses of worship of the Gonabadi dervishes in the city of Qom in 2006; another was partially destroyed in Borujerd in 2007; and a Sufi prayer house in Kish was forced to close late in 2008”.
At the end of the letter Dervishes have called on Mr. Larijani as the Head of the Judiciary to stop oppression and injustice against Dervishes in order to promote access to justice in the Islamic Republic of Iran and demanded the release of imprisoned Gonabadi Dervishes before it’s too late.
Saleh Moradi, who led a hunger strike in the Shiraz prison from January to April this year to protest the solitary confinement of the Evin prisoner Dervishes, received 3 years in prison and 3 years in internal exile in Hormozgan province, on the southern Iranian coast and also 30 lashes.
