Factory workers protest over feared job cuts

More than 800 workers at the Isfahan Polyacryl Factory staged a demonstration against the governor’s failure to live up to his promises.

One of the protesters told ILNA that the government had promised to halt the policy of downsizing the factory, which had led to a pause in the protests.

However, today the government has apparently announced that the factory will face more cutbacks; however, he has promised that this policy will have no effect on the employee contracts and that workers will not be laid off.

The report indicates that a delegation of labour protesters is now meeting with the governor to get him to come to the factory and explain exactly how such a policy is not going to affect job security.

There are 1,500 workers employed by six poly acrylic factories, which are all branches of one main company. The separation of the factory branches has caused the workers grave concern regarding their job security.
