The head of Iran’s Department of the Environment has accused the former administration of providing below-standard gasoline for automobiles in the country.

IRNA reports that Massoumeh Ebtekar said on Wednesday December 4: “The former government did not live up to its commitments and responsibilities in upholding fuel and auto standards, and currently none of the gasoline standards are being fully observed.”

She stressed that years of “neglect” of these standards by the former government have seriously exacerbated the problem of air pollution across the country, but the new administration has made its rectification a top priority.

The Iranian president has called for an immediate response from several ministries and organizations to the alarming levels of air pollution in the country’s major cities.
