The head of Iran’s Hepatitis Research Network reported on Saturday December 14 that 1.6 million people in Iran carry the hepatitis virus.

ILNA reports that according to the statistics presented, 1.4 million suffer from hepatitis B and fewer than 200,000 have hepatitis C.

The reports indicate that 30 years ago, over seven percent of the population was infected with hepatitis, and health and vaccination programs have reduced the percentage to two percent.

Sistan-Baluchistan Province and Golestan Province have the highest number of hepatitis sufferers, the report adds.
