The Mehr News Agency reports that 58 historic buildings have been removed from the National Heritage list in the past eight years by orders from the Court of Administrative Justice. The report accuses the former administration of remaining silent in the face of these losses.
Mehr reports that the dropping of these historic buildings from the list has opened the way for the owners to begin demolishing them.
Owners of buildings with a national heritage designation often try to remove that designation in order to facilitate all forms of development, demolition and rebuilding.
The report indicates there has not been appropriate cooperation between the National Heritage Department and the Court of Administrative Justice to halt the loss of historic buildings.
