772 journalists have urged the Iranian president to live up to his promise and allow the reopening of the Association of Iranian Journalists.

ISNA reports that in a letter, the 772 journalists state that their community has long been awaiting the reopening of the association and they were hoping that this would have been one of the new government’s accomplishments in the report on its first hundred days but instead they are disappointed that their organization still remains shut down.

The Association of Iranian Journalists was shut down in 2009 by the order of the notorious former Tehran prosecutor Saeed Mortazavi and it has remained closed ever since.

Despite several indications by the Rohani administration that it would be allowed to reopen, the association has not yet been granted permission.
