Iranian media report that Aaleddin Boroujerdi, the head of parliament’s National Security Commission, has now joined the Nuclear Committee of the Supreme Council of National Security, linking Parliament to the nuclear negotiations.
On Thursday, Boroujerdi told the Javan News Agency that the head of Parliament has proposed that he participate as a representative of Parliament in the meetings of the Nuclear Committee of the Supreme Council of National Security, and the proposal has been accepted by the president.
Alaeddin Boroujerdi has been a critic of the government’s nuclear negotiations because of the alleged failure to inform Parliament about the details of the agreement.
Last November, Hassan Rohani’s nuclear negotiation team managed to reach an interim agreement with the world powers to ease sanctions in exchange for a number of concessions to limit nuclear activities in Iran.
Parliament has called for access to the details of the negotiations, and Boroujerdi’s inclusion in the Nuclear Committee is a step in that direction.
