Asghar Farhadi’s The Past has been nominated in five categories for France’s Cesar Awards, while Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani has also been nominated in the female newcomer category for her role in Afghan filmmaker Atiq Rahimi’s Sang-e Sabour.
The Cesar Academy announced the 2014 nominees on Friday January 31 in 22 categories. At the top of the Cesar list was Guillaume Gallienne’s Les Garçons Et Guillaume, A Table! which garnered 10 nominations, and Abdellatif Kechiche’s Blue Is The Warmest Color, which captured eight.
Farhadi’s film The Past has been nominated in the categories of best director, best film, best original screenplay, best editing and best actress.
France’s Cesar Awards are the local equivalent to the Oscars, and the award ceremony will take place on February 28 in Paris.
