Jailed Iranian writer calls on Supreme Leader to resign

Mohammad Nourizad, the Iranian writer and political activist, has called on the Iranian Supreme Leader to give up his position as leader of the country and “open the arena for a multilateral election by the people.”

This is the thirtieth letter written by Nourizad in criticism of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and his leadership of the country.

The letters have led to Nourizad’s serious persecution and charges of “insulting the Supreme Leader” and “propaganda against the regime.”

Nourizad was a staunch supporter of the Islamic Republic regime until the controversial elections of 2009, which led to a deep rift between the reformist forces and the hardline establishment.

The publication of his letters led to his incarceration and serious mistreatment in prison.

Nourizad has called on Ayatollah Khamenei to “beg for the people’s forgiveness”, saying he is not fit to lead the people of Iran.
