All but one of 28 detained miners from Chadormalu Mine were released on Monday February 3, but former union representative Bahram Hassaninejad, whose dismissal triggered work stoppages, still remains under arrest.

The workers had been arrested incrementally since Wednesday as they were summoned one by one by Ardkan Security Police.

ILNA reports that the workers have been told that Hassaninejad will be released tomorrow.

The workers were still on strike today, but union representative Hossein Jenayi reported that the 2,000 workers will return to work tomorrow when Hassaninejad is released.

Last November, 800 workers of Chadormalu Mine began a strike to protest unfair wages and the dismissal of their union representative, Bahram Hassaninejad.

Management had filed complaints against workers with the governor’s office, which led to the workers’ arrest. Yesterday, the Ardkan representative in Parliament called for the release of the workers and urged officials to address the demands of the minister in his region.
