Iran angered by U.S. making additions to blacklist

The Iranian foreign ministry has condemned Washington’s recent expansion of its blacklist of entities dealing with Iran, saying Iran is prepared to respond in kind to this move.

Iranian media reports that Marzieh Afkham, the spokesperson for the ministry, said on February 7 that the U.S. move was another instance of the country’s “lack of good faith on the threshold of coming negotiations.”

On February 6, the U.S. added a number of individuals and European companies to its list of blacklisted entities in relation to sanctions against Iran.

The U.S. Treasury announced that the new additions are being punished for helping Iran to avoid international sanctions.

This is the second time the U.S. has expanded this list since an interim deal on nuclear issues was reached last November between the Rohani administration and the 5+1.

While the U.S. move does not go against any provisions of the Geneva deal, it has made hardliners in Iran speak out harshly against the Rohani administration for promoting diplomacy with world powers.
