Iranian President Hassan Rohani marked the anniversary of the 1979 Revolution among demonstrators who defended the report card of his administration.

Iranian media report that on the 35th anniversary of the Revolution, Rohani told marchers that as a result of his government’s six months in power, the country has become more peaceful and the economy is headed toward recovery. He cited the decline in the inflation rate from 43 percent to 35 percent.

He promised to bring the inflation rate down to 25 percent in the coming year.

The International Monetary Fund, which in September had ranked Iran as the country with the highest inflation rate, is now predicting that the Iranian economy may see a growth rate of 1.3 percent in 2014 and its inflation rate could fall to 29 percent.

Rohani also credited his government with bringing the country “greater peacefulness, unity and harmony.”

He spoke of greater cooperation and coordination among the different branches of government as well as high-ranking officials in the country.

Rohani also defended his government’s efforts to end the nuclear disputes with world powers. He added that there are no longer any military threats against Iran and he stressed that his government’s foreign affairs policy is built around “moderation not surrender”. He added that the nuclear talks “are advancing on the foundation of Iran’s good faith and pacifism.”

Western countries have eased some of the sanctions against Iran following the interim deal reached in November in Geneva, and the two sides are soon to meet for further talks to reach a final deal.
