Hamid-Reza Moradi and Mostafa Daneshjou, imprisoned lawyer and Dervish rights activists in protest action against the authorities’ denial of adequate medical care to imprisoned Dervishes are refusing to accept medication despite the poor state of their health.
According to Majzooban Noor reporter, on 6 Esfand 1392 (Feb 25, 2013), judicial authorities sent a letter to Tehran Heart Center demanding the return of two ill Dervishes Hamid-Reza Moradi and Mostafa Daneshjou to Shohada e Tajrish hospital. Although the hospital physicians were not willing to discharge these two patients due to their obvious dire condition, but authorities insisted on transfer of them.
Also following the denial of urgent medical treatment for another jailed Gonabadi Dervish in ward 350 of Evin prison, Ashin Karampour other jailed Gonabadi Dervishes went on strike and did not go to visiting room in a protest action against preventing Afshin Karampour from being sent to the hospital despite his severe pain .These two events led Hamid-Reza Moradi and Mostafa Daneshjou to return to Evin prison and now refusing medication in protest action against massive interference by the judicial authorities with medical treatment of jailed Dervishes.
Gonabadi Dervishes, Hamid-Reza Moradi and Mostafa Daneshjou were transferred to Tehran Heart Center in Amirabad on 27th of Bahman 1392 ( Feb 16, 2014) after three months of obstruction of being sent to this specialized hospital by Judge Salavati. They had been remained in critical condition and in urgent need of specialized medical care for more than three months which led them facing with a serious and life threatening conditions because of trying to sabotage judiciary by some judicial authorities including judge Salavati.
As doctors have recommended that Shohada e Tajrish hospital is inappropriate for treating cardiovascular, they were waiting for permissions on transfer to Tehran Heart Center for more than three months and during this period almost their necessary medical treatment and health care had been stopped.
Hamid-Reza Moradi was sent back to prison while the date for his Vascular surgery had been set in the next week.
Hamid Moradi, in addition to serving a 10-and-a-half year penal term, has suffered a serious infection of the foot, which may require amputation, after torture by Iranian officials. He is also afflicted by illnesses including arteriosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases, as well as lumbar disc damage.
Mostafa Daneshjou, jailed Dervish lawyers in ward 350 of Evin prison, was handed a 7-and-a-half year prison sentence, and is a pulmonary patient. He is recently suffering from cardiac arrhythmia due to the lack of attention to proper healthcare treatment while in custody.
