The U.S. Treasury has announced that it has lifted some restrictions on Iranian students and universities.
A new permit issued by the U.S. Treasury allows student exchange programs between U.S. and Iranian universities and certain educational services can be offered to Iranian individuals and institutes.
U.S. financial institutions will be allowed to handle the transactions related to these student exchange and educational service delivery programs.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry stated that the easing of these restrictions would create more opportunities for Iranian students to pursue their studies in the United States.
The U.S. Treasury adds that the services cannot be extended to individuals under sanction.
The Geneva Agreement reached between Iran and the 5+1 last November contains certain provisions for lifting bans on the delivery of financial aid to Iranian students studying abroad.
