Iran has confirmed that one of its border officials abducted by Jeysh-ol-Adl has been killed by his captors.

Sistan-Baluchistan’s Deputy Governor for Security Ali Asghar Mirshekari told official media: “Our investigations have confirmed the martyrdom of one of our five border officials.”

He said that Jamshid Danaifar was the only officer among the abducted border personnel.

Iranian officials earlier had rejected news of Danaifar’s death. The five Iranians were abducted in February by Jeysh-ol-Adl, a militant Sunni group that has called for the release of 200 Sunnis from Iranian prisoners and another 50 Sunni women in Syria in exchange for the five border officials.

It was reported that Danaifar’s wife recently gave birth to the couple’s first child.
