Iranian media report that Pakistan’s ambassador to Tehran has been summoned by Iranian authorities following reports that one of five Iranian border officials abducted into Pakistan has been killed by their captors.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the Pakistani ambassador and called for his government’s immediate action in identifying, arresting and extraditing those responsible for the abductions and the killing.

On Wednesday March 26, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed disappointment that “Pakistan is unable to establish security in its border regions.”

Jeysh-ol-Adl, a Sunni militant group, kidnapped the five border officials in February and announced on Sunday that it had “executed” one of the captives, Sergeant Jamshid Danaifar.

Today, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon condemned the action, extending condolences to Iranians and calling for the release of the remaining captives.
