The world is burning but Anna retains media focus

Libya and the imminent downfall of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime, and the humiliating 4-0 series defeat that was handed down to India by England make it to the front pages of the national newspapers today, but not even these epochal events can take away from the dominance of Team Anna.

All newspapers have fallen to speculating when and indeed if, the stand off between Team Anna and the government can be resolved. Some newspapers like The Economic Times and The Times of India have hinted that the government may back down from its earlier stand and allow the office of the Prime Minister to be included under the ambit of the Lokpal. More worrying however, is the lead story in The Times of India that quotes Anna Hazare’s medical team as saying that Anna’s health is deteriorating and that he may have to be hospitalized soon.

The Indian Express quoting Aruna Roy, has commented on team Anna’s increasing intolerance and refusal to negotiate, while other newspapers have looked at the possibility that either the Prime Minister or Rahul Gandhi will directly talk to the team.
