Concern raised over impact of untrained builders in Iran

The Iranian president’s chief adviser and head of the Professional Engineering and Construction Association says five people die on construction sites every day.

Akbar Torkan told IRNA that despite consistent efforts to raise awareness of work safety regulations and issues on construction sites, 47 percent of workplace accidents occur on construction sites.

He added that one of the chief problems remains the hiring of non-professionals in this area, which also leads to a shorter lifespan for the buildings being built.

“If a building is constructed in compliance with all construction principles and regulations, it could remain for even 150 years,” Torkan said. According to the president’s chief adviser, the longevity of most of the buildings currently being constructed does not exceed 30 years.
