Iranian MP Ali Mahjoub has slammed the government for failing to allow workers to march on International Workers Day.
Mahjoub said officials from the Interior Ministry refused to issue a permit for the May Day march.
The Etemad daily quoted Mahjoub saying in Parliament: “Why, in its first year, has the Government of Wisdom and Hope denied the workers’ constitutional right to stage a march?”
The Rohani administration, which took power last August, has been dubbed the Government of Wisdom and Hope.
Mahjoub added that some provinces had been told that any march of more than 400 people would not be permitted.
A member of Parliament’s Workers’ Faction, Mahjoub said the group hopes that in the coming year workers will finally be given permission to hold a march on May Day.
