Environmental activists oppose pro-hunting folk songs

A number of environmental groups are protesting the promotion of hunting in a folk music album recently released in Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiyari Province.

Kor Sayyad or “Hunter’s son”, an album of folk songs by Ali Ahmadpour, presents lyrics describing and promoting the hunting of animals, according to environmental activist groups.

The album’s creators maintain that it merely represents poetry and folk songs in the region.

The environmental activists say that it is confusing and contradictory for the government to issue permits for such an album when, at the same time, there is a move to destroy hunting weapons in various hunting regions. They continue to call for educational programs to promote environmental awareness among folk singers.

Last year, environmental activists also protested the inclusion of hunting as cultural heritage of Chahar Mahal and Bakhtiyari Province.
