Behzad Nabavi, a prominent reformist and executive member of the Mujahedin of the Islamic Revolution Party, was released from Evin Prison after completing his sentence.

ISNA reports that Nabavi left Evin Prison on May 22.

Nabavi was swept up in the wave of arrests that followed the controversial reelection of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in 2009, when police and security forces targeted leading reformist figures and those who challenged the vote count.

The former Member of Parliament was sentenced during proceedings that were dubbed “the handling of disturbances trials” following the 2009 presidential election. He was sentenced to six years in jail, but that was reduced to five years upon appeal.
