Gonabadi Dervish resident of the city of Golpayegan, Abbas Salehian was sentenced to six months discretionary imprisonment by the Special Courts for the Clergy.
According to a report by Majzooban Noor, Mr. Abbas Salehian, a Gonabadi Dervish living in the city of Golpayegan despite not being a clergyman, was tried in the Special Clerical Court presided over by judge “Taghi Bahrami” and sentenced to six months jail for “committing a forbidden act by promoting the Gonabadi Sufi order faith”.
In a part of the court verdict has stated that: “Based on the defendant’s confession to holding sectarian prayers which is the clear example of publicity and promotion, his guilt has been proven and according to Ayatollah Khomeini’s book, Tahrirolvasyleh, the fourth issue and also Note of Article 42 of Prosecutor’s offices and Special Clerical Court Regulation, he should be sentenced to six months imprisonment.”
The remarkable thing is that Mr. Abbas Salehian is not a clergyman and his crime is just attending Gonabadi Dervish ceremonies!
It should be noted that recently the intelligence department in the city of Golpayegan reported the Justice Department about two Gonabadi Dervishes, Abbas Salehian and Emran Doost-Mohammadi as they are guilty of promoting Sufi sect, which led to making file cases against Gonabadi Dervishes in courts.
