Rohani supporter named Tehran University president

According to a report by Radio Zamaneh, the Minister of Science and Technology has appointed Mohammad Nili Ahmadabadi as the new president of Tehran University. Iranian media report that Nili Ahmadabadi will work as interim head of the university until his appointment has been announced to the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution.

Nili Ahmadabadi was a supporter of Hassan Rohani in the recent election. He is a graduate of Shiraz University and Tohoko University in Japan. He currently teaches metallurgy at Tehran University and has been active in various academic and administrative positions at Shiraz and Tehran universities.

Since the Rohani administration took power, Farhad Rahbar was removed as the head of the University of Tehran. Rahbar’s term was marked by a fierce crackdown on student activists.
