According to a report by Radio Zamaneh, three directors of the Tehran Meteorology Organization have resigned, one week after residents were caught off guard by a storm that ravaged the city.

The Shargh daily reports that the Director General of Tehran Meteorology, the Director of Weather Forecasts and Warnings and the Director of Information and Communication Technology have all tendered their resignations following repeated criticism of the organization’s failure to forewarn the city about the fierce storm that hit the capital on Sunday June 1.

Winds were said to have reached 118 kilometres per hour in Tehran, leading to five deaths and many injuries.

A number of MPs have called for the organization’s management to be held accountable for its failure to alert citizens about the severe weather conditions.
