According to a report by Radio Zamaneh, Iranian student and political activist Majid Dori was released from Karoon Prison in Ahwaz on Thursday June 12 after serving out his five-year sentence.

Dori was expelled from Allameh Tabatabayi University and arrested in Qazvin in July of 2009 and was first sentenced to 11 years in prison in exile.

In the appeals court, his sentence was reduced to five years in jail, and he was finally transferred to Karoon Prison in Ahwaz. Dori, who was expelled from university in 2007 and barred from continuing his education, joined other expelled student activists to establish the “Council for the Defence of the Right to Education.”

Dori wrote an open letter to the people of Behbahan and Ahwaz who supported him throughout his five-year incarceration away from his family in Karaj.
