According to a report by Radio Zamaneh, Mahmoud Alizadeh Tabatabayi, the lawyer for Mehdi Hashemi, says some of the evidence presented against his client by security officials and the ministry of intelligence was fake.

Alizadeh Tabatabyi told IRNA that he has informed the judge of the problems, adding: “Although the prosecutor’s office has had the file for over a year, they have not been able to overcome the deficiencies.”

Prosecutor General Gholamhossen Mohseni Ejei had said at his weekly press conference that the Hashemi file was now ready to be put before a judge. He added that the case will go before a new judge on July 22.

Mehdi Hashemi, the oldest son of the moderate cleric and head of the Expediency Council Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, has filed a complaint against the change of judge in his case, saying it is not in line with court regulations.

Mehdi Hashemi is facing charges for his involvement in the 2009 election protests.
