Saba Azarpeyk, the Iranian journalist who has been under arrest since late May, has contacted her mother for the first time in more than 40 days.

Her mother, Akram Mohammadi, told ILNA that her daughter contacted them, as was promised by the investigator, and expressed serious hope that she soon would be released.

Azarpeyk is accused of “propaganda activities against the regime.”

Azarpeyk was arrested at her workplace, the offices of the Tejarat Farda weekly. Her arrest has been denounced in a statement by 147 journalists, who have called it “illegal” and called on the Ministry of Intelligence and Iran’s Press Office to secure her immediate release.
