Iranian political prisoner Mehdi Khazali was released after going on a hunger strike for 24 days. The news of his release was reported on the Facebook page of his son, Mohammad Saleh Khazali.

Mehdi Khazali was reportedly released on the night of Sunday July 13.

Khazali was arrested early last month and immediately began a hunger strike.

Since then, he has reportedly suffered two heart attacks and is in grave health.

He was taken to Rejai Shahr Prison but was soon transferred to Imam Khomeini Hospital.

Khazali has been arrested several times since the election protests of 2009. He is the son of conservative clergy member Ayatollah Khazali, who has disowned his son for his reformists views.
