Denying imprisoned Gonabadi Dervish lawyer, Omid Behroozi medical treatment, which is due to illegal forcing jailed Dervishes to use handcuffs and prison uniform, has caused the severity of his illness.
According to a report by Majzooban Noor, jailed lawyer, Omid Behroozi who has recently been transferred from ward 350 to hall 3 of ward 7 of Evin prison, despite numerous problems including neck arthritis and severe hearing loss in his left ear has been prevented from being transferred to the hospital outside of prison for specialist’s exams and MRI scan of his ears to determine his physical condition since two years ago.
Following the order from Judge Salavati for placing jailed Dervishes in handcuffs and shackles, Mr. Khodabakhshi, the deputy of Tehran’s prosecutor, in response to his family for pursuing the case has told them that: ” As long as they don’t wear prison clothes, your demands for medical treatment will be just archived.”
As jailed Dervishes have refused to do so, all of them were deprived of their right of access to appropriate health-care services. Although according to the first paragraph of Article 235 of Executive Regulation of Prison Law, political prisoners and prisoners of conscience are exempt from wearing a prison uniform, using handcuffs and footcuffs during their transfer to medical centers, jurisdictions, education and training centers. This kind of violations and illegal interferences in medical treatment of ill Dervishes by judge Salavati has created many problems for jailed Dervishes.

It is pertinent to say that in Esfand 1392 (March 2014) 10 jailed Gonabadi Dervishes started a hunger strike and 5000 Dervishes across the country joined them to protest the denial of medical treatment of political prisoners, the transfer of 2 Dervishes from hospital back to Evin prison and the illegal exile of 2 Dervishes from Evin prison to Rajai-Shahr Prison which led to a massive hunger strike by Dervishes and the gathering protest in front of Tehran Prosecutor’s Office.
Imprisoned Dervish lawyer Omid Behroozi, who has been arrested and being held in jail since Shahrivar 90 (Sep 2011) was beaten by security agents in the time of his arrest in “Gole Sorkh ” Square in Shiraz so his left ear was injured and now he is suffering from hearing impairment.
His law license has been canceled by the judiciary during the destroying of Gonabadi Dervishes’s worship place in Qom. He was also sentenced to 7 years and six months imprisonment by Judge Salavati.
The following documents show his last transfer that was in 1391 (2012). In both letters, the neurologist and ear, nose and throat specialist have emphasized that he is in dire need of testing and treatment. But since then, all of his transfers to hospital have been canceled and medical treatment is denied.
