Goncheh Qavami, the Iranian activist jailed after trying to enter a stadium to watch a volleyball game with a group of other women, has begun a hunger strike, according to her brother.

Qavami has been charged with propaganda against the regime and reports indicate that she has been sentenced to one year in jail. However, the decision of the court has not been officially issued and served on her, and she remains in limbo.

In an interview with AFP, Iman Qavami, told reporters that his sister began a hunger strike on Saturday November 1 in desperation about her undetermined state. He added that she is refusing both food and drink to protest the failure of the authorities to officially hand her a sentence.

Qavami’s lawyer has announced that he was shown the court decision but so far the authorities have not served it on her.

Qavami was arrested in June with a group of women trying to seek entry into a volleyball stadium. They were all released the following day, however, Qavami was arrested again after a few days and charged with propaganda against the regime.
