President Hassan Rohani’s communications adviser announced that blocking cellphone social networking websites has not been approved, adding that on Wednesday November 12, cabinet adopted new regulations to allow free access to information regarding government spending.

President Rohani referred to the new regulations, saying: “In a democratic system, the public has the right to be informed of all government activities that use monies from the treasury. Free access to this information is a concrete step to avoid corruption.”

The regulations require all government bodies and their subsidiaries to provide their spending information to the public promptly at regular intervals.

The regulations state that within three years, the spending information should be made available on the internet.
