The day after President Rohani’s fourth candidate for the position of Science Minister was voted down by Parliament, a letter to the head of Parliament, Ali Larijani, has announced the fifth choice, Mohammad Farhadi.
Fardahi is a physician and ENT specialist. A member of Tehran University College of Physicians, he has already served as Minister of Culture and Higher Education in the 1980s and was the Minister of Health in the government of reformist president Mohammad Khatami.
Farhadi has also served as head of Tehran University and the Red Crescent Society. He still hold the latter position.
Farhadi told ILNA that he has been President Rohani’s list of candidates for the position of science minister, adding that he is prepared to take on the responsibilities of the position and has many ideas for promoting and replenishing the ministry.
So far Parliament has been critical of President Rohani’s candidates for the job of science minister, alleging that they not aligned with conservative Islamic values.
