Tehran transit drivers protest over housing subsidy

Tehran’s transit bus drivers gathered in protest on Monday November 24 in front of Tehran City Hall to grieve the mishandling of their benefits.

Two hundred Sherkat-e Vahed bus drivers maintain that they were supposed to receive a one-time subsidy to pruchase housing but the fund has been mishandled, ILNA reports.

According to the report, City Hall and Sherkat-e Vahed Company signed an agreement in 2006 that the revenues generated from selling some of the bus company’s surplus property would be used in part to offer subsidies to workers in rental housing so they could purchase a house.

The subsidies were to be given in order of seniority, which the workers maintain has not been carried out fairly.

Workers claim they have made several efforts to talk with Tehran Mayor Mohammd Bagher Ghalibaf and had no success.
